About Goddard's:
Joseph Goddard always held a deep appreciation for beautiful silver. As a chemist and county analyst in Leicester, England in the 1830's, J. Goddard was frequently called upon to assay fine silver owned by England's wealthy families.
J. Goddard's career took a turn when, following the discovery of electroplating, silver-plated servingware became affordable to the average English home. The initial exuberance of those who bought new silverware, however, quickly turned to disappointment. The commonly used mercurial silver polish ate away the thin-layered silverplate.
J. Goddard felt that there must be a way to remove tarnish from silverware without harming the finish. After many attempts, in 1839 he finally perfected a silver polish that would safely remove tarnish from even the thinnest plated silver. Goddard's Non-Mercurial Plate Powder was introduced!
The fame of Plate Powder quickly spread. In 1885, Goddard's products won six gold medals for excellence at the American Exposition. For decades, Goddard's products have been used exclusively to maintain priceless treasures and antiques in the most renowned museums, state houses, hotels and private estates throughout the world.
It has been over 160 years since Joseph Goddard first introduced his Non-Mercurial Plate Powder. But Goddard's products are still manufactured today with the same superior quality upon which J. Goddard insisted.
